PROWLER SELECTED BY ROCKWELL SCIENTIFIC TO MEET DARPA GRAND CHALLENGE THOUSAND OAKS, CA, JULY 28, 2003 -- SciAutonics, a corporation created by Rockwell Scientific Company to develop and campaign an autonomous ground vehicle in the DARPA Grand Challenge, has selected the ATV Corporation Prowler RTV (Rugged Terrain Vehicle) as the ground mobile platform for their RASCAL (Robust Autonomous Sensor Controlled All-terrain Land-vehicle). The DARPA Grand Challenge is an approximately 250 mile race of completely autonomous vehicles scheduled for March, 2004. It will be run between Barstow, California and Las Vegas, Nevada. The challenge is intended to leverage American ingenuity to accelerate the development of autonomous vehicle technologies that can be applied to military requirements. This endeavor is targeted to find smart solutions that will be tested under challenging actual race conditions - something that has never been done before. The Prowler is designed to be easily adaptable to a wide range of tactical and mission support requirements. It is considered the premier Special Operations light tactical platform, noted for its singular combination of speed, range, agility, stability and endurance.
